WILKERSON CEMETERY

Washington Township, Warren County, Ohio

Link to pictures I took of the Wilkerson Cemetery June 2003.  As you can see Emilie, the new owner of the property has taken wonderful care of the property.  We are very lucky that she cares so much for our ancestors.

The Wilkerson - Vandervoort Cemetery

In 1915 a fund in the amount of $6.00 was started for the care of the cemetery and deposited in the Peoples Building Loan & Savings Company.  In 1924 Jonathan Vandervoort deposited $200.00, the principle to be left intact.  The interest to be used for the care of the cemetery.  The cemetery was known from 1811 to the present time as the Wilkerson – Vandervoort Cemetery, as listed on the pass book.

The Trustees Charles Huffman moved to California, Paul Vandervoort moved to Delaware.  John W. Settlemyre cared for the cemetery at his own expense until his death in 1955, then Robert Settlemyre, Alice Knecht.  John B. Settlemyre assumed the responsibility for the care of the cemetery.  Alice Knecht, resigned and Herbert Ross took the part.  New fence was erected around the cemetery under the supervision of John B. Settlemyre in 1959, costing $308.00.  The care of the cemetery was neglected when in 1970 Robert Settlemyre assumed the responsibility and donated his work.

I have been informed that his cemetery is listed as the Huffman cemetery, this is in error.  It should be the Wilkerson – Vandervoort Cemetery, as there are no names of Huffman buried there.  The majority of those buried there, are descendants of James Wilkerson, to the fourth generation and the Paul Vandervoort’s descendants.

I wish to congratulate the Warren County Historical Society for the progress the last few years.
